Air Ambulances Helicopter
The Air ambulance has a role in delivering emergency care, especially in rural areas and where road access is a problem. They can be an effective way of getting better and faster access to hospitals and valuable in supporting inter-hospital transfers. While air ambulances do bring benefits in particular circumstances, they are very expensive to operate and past research failed to show that they were strong candidates to be entirely funded by the NHS. Since April 1 2002, the cost of clinical staff on the air ambulances has been met by the NHS.
