Bariatric Ambulance Hire
Our solution to your bariatric patient transport needs

A unique bariatric ambulance and crew available now

We, at South Central Ambulance Service NHS Trust, can handle your bariatric patient transfers.
You'll receive a fully equipped frontline ambulance, staffed by an experienced two person Patient Transport Service (PTS) crew that's qualified to drive on blue lights and familiar with conveying bariatric patients with special regard to their dignity and respect.
Our dedicated bariatric ambulance is big enough to take four standard patient trolleys, or to convey two bariatric trolleys. This enables us to move patients of any weight up to 55 stone/350kg, including the trolley.
Our bariatric ambulance is equipped with floor mounted channels to secure equipment; a 1,000kg tail lift measuring 2.05m x 2.16m capable of comfortably accommodating the largest bariatric hospital bed in use; an onboard winch and can carry a bariatric wheelchair.
Our ambulance, a scrupulously maintained, low mileage Iveco 65C, is fully equipped with basic life support equipment, on-board oxygen supply. Its multi-role ability also has the facility to connect up to four incubators.
It may also be used to transport a patient seated in a bariatric wheelchair. The wheelchair is not stored on board but will be loaded as a replacement for the Pegasus Trolley should such a patient transport be required.
We offer comfort, dignity and respect during bariatric patient transportation across the UK (and beyond), around the clock, throughout the year.
