Annual Quality Report 2012-13

Foreword on quality

Welcome to our second Quality Account as a foundation trust.

We deliver A&E 999 ambulance services, patient transport and 111 services. All of these services are committed to delivering the highest quality care all of the time.

The quality of the care we deliver and the safety of our patients is fundamental to what we do. Improving quality will make our service safer, more clinically effective, timely and patient focused.

Throughout the development of this report we have involved our staff and clinical teams, Health Overview and Scrutiny Committees (HOSCs), our NHS commissioners and our governors and members. We remain accountable to our local communities and it is important we gather the views of our local residents in understanding what is important to them if they use our services.

The trust Board is fully engaged with improving quality in our organisation and undertake regular leadership walkarounds. The Board will robustly monitor and scrutinise emerging risks to quality standards via the integrated performance report and measures.

We know we have work to do on continuing to improve the experiences our patients and families have when in contact with our services. We will strive to continue to improve our learning through complaints and reported incidents. SCAS will continue to improve the spread of lessons learned and of good or best practice initiatives.

The trust's strategic goals and objectives support the quality improvement strategy in that SCAS aims to always provide excellent care when you need us and to provide safe care where your experience is a positive one.

We are proud of our achievements and I wish to state my gratitude to our staff and colleagues who have contributed to this report and in planning quality improvements going forward.

Our core values include delivering high quality and performance through collaborative teamwork and caring for those we interact with, and this is important if we are to work together to continuously improve.

To the best of my knowledge the information in this document is accurate.

Will Hancock
Chief Executive
