Air ambulances are vital for getting high quality care to the most injured or illest of our patients in the quickest time. In South Central there are two helicopters, one based at RAF Benson in Oxfordshire and other at Thruxton in Hampshire.
It is only through the generosity of the public that these two Eurocopter EC135s can fly. The two air ambulance charities receive no Government funding and rely solely upon public donations to fund the running of the helicopters, the pilots and the doctors that fly on the aircraft. SCAS funds the paramedics that crew the air ambulances as well as the air ambulance manager and medical supplies.
