LGBT Network - Pride in our staff and community

Staff from South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SCAS) will be launching the Trust's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Network at Reading Pride on Saturday 8 September 2012.

SCAS LGBT is a network of staff celebrating the culture and contributions of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people within SCAS. The network is open to all SCAS staff, volunteers or contractors regardless of sexuality.

SCAS CEO Will Hancock said:

'I believe the LGBT network will be a force for good in SCAS and provide a further way to support our staff for the benefit of our patients. Diversity flourishes in healthy teams, creating the rounded individuals that we need at SCAS to deliver excellent services to our community that are personalised according to any individual's needs.'

On Saturday 8 September staff from SCAS will join with colleagues from Thames Valley Police, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service and many others to participate in the Reading Pride parade from the centre of town to the Kings Meadow festival site in a celebration of diversity.

Reading Pride is a community celebration that aims to promote equality and diversity and to work towards eliminating discrimination with regard to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people in Reading and throughout the Thames valley.

2012 is the fifth year the Trust will have a stand at Reading Pride and the second time in the event's nine year history that SCAS will join the parade. Apart from launching the LGBT Network at the event this year, the Trust will be taking the opportunity to tell the public who we are and what we do and to inform people about career opportunities and volunteer roles such as becoming a Community First Responder in addition to recruiting Foundation Trust public members. Clinical staff will also on hand to provide medical cover for the event.

Kirsten Willis, SCAS Emergency Services Manager said:

'We are very proud to be launching the SCAS LGBT Network at Reading Pride to reflect our pride in our staff and community.'

'Our LGBT Network will provide a forum for members, whether they are 'out' in the workplace or not, to be supported and engaged with the Trust's support network. We will attend events, hold regular meetings, provide updates to members and hold social gatherings throughout the year.
